EFL Girls Cup – 2017

The annual EFL Girls Cup Competition was ran on Thursday 16th November at Poolfoot Farm. This is a competition for U13’s Girls (YR7 and 8 teams) and every football league Club runs a similar local event.
This year saw our record turnout for Girls competing. We had 16 teams from 10 high schools and over 140 Girls playing on the day! The tournament showed a very high standard of football across all the group stages and into the knock-out rounds. The Cup was eventually won by Hodgson Academy A team, who beat Cardinal Allen in a thrilling final.

Two players of the day were named by competing schools, both of whom appeared in the final. Katie Ramsbottom, who scored 16 goals in the tournament, and Beth Strutton, who hit the back of the net 20 times on the day.

The event was so successful that it appears that a localised Schools league may spring from this in the future. Well done to Hodgson Academy, who will go on to represent FTFC at the Regional Finals at Poolfoot Farm in January.
